der mann ohne eigenschaften

Today I took the train south to a meeting for the writing course. Another train had derailed, no one was injured, but all other trains had to take another way. We couldn’t follow the coastal tracks but had to take a detour on tracks through the hinterlands. Sure, why not call it the hinterlands. And that meant the train was three hours late. But it was ok. I sleeped for a while. I worked with papers for the course. I looked out the window and saw the winter landscape. Coniferous forest covered in snow. Old houses, there are places where they are building new houses like crazy. The hinterland is not one of those places. One could pretend that it was many decades ago and travelling in a horse drawn sleigh. It would have looked the same.

We passed a town I had spent a week, at another course,  in a summer many years ago. I saw that the town was surrounded by hills. I don’t remember there were hills around the town.

If you followed me on livejournal you know that I like to update from train journeys. Like my previous journeys for this course. Or the time, three years ago,  I travelled to Copenhagen by train. And three hours is not the worst delay I have experienced. The day after my 20 birthday I was on a train that was eight hours late because of a snowstorm.
