One year of the pandemic:

1. Did you catch COVID-19? If yes, when, and was it bad?

No.

2. Did anybody close to you catch the virus, or even die from it?

Two friends have had it. Both were relatively young so while young people can get really sick, it was never any risk of death. (If anyone reacts to that - with the risk of, hopefuly for the only time in the entry, sounding passive aggressive - sometimes when something is very unlikely we say it doesn’t happen, that’s how language works.)

3. Did you lose your job due to the pandemic or did your work situation change considerably? Home office?

No. I lost my job for unrelated reasons.

4. Have you already been vaccinated? If yes, with which vaccine and how did it go?

Yes, I have got my first shot. Got modernas vaccine and I was felling fine after. And my parents and some friends are vaccinated (we are talking first short for them too and some friends got the Astra-Zeneca vaccine meaning no one knows what they should do with the second injection).

5. Has your mental health suffered due to and during the pandemic?

Yes. It was the double whammy of the virus being worse than I hoped and the debate around it being worse than I could have imagined. (Of course the first fact is worse for the world, but it doesn't change the fact I was stressed and had meltdowns over the second one too.)

6. How do you judge the performance of your local and national government during the past year?

It might still be too early to tell. I hope they have done well. “We have kept democracy. We have trusted people. I think there are a number of benefits from not having a server lockdown and more of them will come as we do research on this in the future.” / Johan Giesecke

Following the rule children shouldn’t suffer for the safety of the adult, keeping the heads cold and not closing schools for the kids under 16 could very likely have been great. Of course mistakes have been made. The country wasn’t prepared for a catastrophe. The civil defence is not what it used to be. (Mom thinks we would have had our own vaccine productions if it wasn’t for all dismanteling of goverment institutions dealing with this things.)

7. What is the worst memory you will conserve from the past year? What made you angry?

I have had tough times, but not a really bad memory. What made me angry? Well, there is a reason one of our science journalist invented the word: hobbyepidemiolog “hobby epidemiologist”. People who know nothing, being sure they were experts on pandemic handling of a newly discovered virus.

8. And, if there is one, the best memory? What made you happy?

It was not a year for memories. But the summer was ok.

9. Do you think we are over the worst period of this pandemic by now?

Yes. Actually I’m not sure, I’m still afraid, but more and more of the risk groups are getting vaccinated. Since starting it seems to have kept mortality down and rationally thinking, vaccines should keep holding it down.

10. Is there anything you would have done differently a year ago if you knew what you know now?

Worry less.

11. What about your body? Lost or gained weight? Illnesses of other kinds? Fitness? Injuries?
'
I honestly don’t know.

12. Did you lose or gain friends? Keep in contact with those you already had?

No change.

13. How did you spend your free time? Did you get creative? Learn new stuff? Read a lot? Write a book?

Streaming. Growing plants, houseplants in soil or semihydro and greens in hydro, and I have also baked. Plus writing, of course. And about the house plants, I have sold one of them and am planning to sell more, so I call it an embryo to a company.

14. Do you have children? If yes, how did you manage everything, from homeschooling to having to keep them at home and deal with their desire to meet other kids? Did you have to seek professional help of some kind? How was the school situation in general where you live?

I do not have kids.

15. What will be the first thing you will do when it is possible again?

I want to visit the art campus to work, alone in the locale there, for my course. Technically it’s not illegal to do that, and since both me and so many I met has had the first dose of vaccine it wouldn’t be that stupid to do that now. However I think I will wait a little bit longer.

Good luck with your planting project! I hope you do get to do that for a living if that's what you would like. :)
