I wrote that I wasn’t going to write about covid-19, but the following is just indirectly linked to it. Mom told me over the phone that a nurse she know, say that the number of heart attacks and premature born babies has gone down this spring. People are reacting positive on the situation, of having an excuse to take it easy. I thought it should be the other way around. Stress from the pandemic should make us ill. I have to do one of the surprisingly hard thing in life, namly change my opinion when getting new information. Ok, in cases like this we might be legally obligated to write an obvious caveat (or maybe I’m just proud of myself for learning the word “caveat”), it’s second hand information from one nurse (for you third hand information). It could also be a class thing. That it's just the middle class that can use the situation to their advantage: “Such a nice weather today, I think I stay at home and enjoy it, I mean I put myself in quarantine, at least until it starts rain again”. Yes, I’m joking, mostly .. but the point is that the lower classes may not have the same freedom to use the situation to relax.
