Florida über alles
So I guess I should find out how Ron DeSantis feels about Ukraine. They said most pro-Russian (or wherever word one should use) republicans lost the “midterm election”, and that’s one thing I care about in that election. It sould be obvious why we care about DeSantis views on Ukraine. Also I might have to learn how to pronounce DeSantis, I’m dyslectic, unfamiliar names can be hard for me*.
Ok, one thing about DeSantis, from an article in the Atlantic: “Added to that, DeSantis’s instincts were not as extreme as his opponents suggest—or, knowing how it plays with his base, as he likes to claim. Florida reopened its schools in August 2020—earlier than many major blue-state districts but after many European countries. Throughout the pandemic, Florida’s work-from-home and masking policies would not have made it an outlier in European terms. Sometimes, liberals have to accept that the polarization of U.S. politics goes two ways, and that their favored policies look extreme to outsiders:” Think about that.
Otherwise we got snow, but the first snow of the winter never lasts. That the snow now come so much later in the year doesn’t change that fact. It was however nice while it lasted. I was kind of happy over it. Of course this is a reason to write about the climate catastrophe. One teacher claims we will soon be able to grow almonds as far north as Stockholm and maybe grow guava in the most southern parts of Sweden. So here is an article in the Atlantic about guava being an invasive species in Hawaii.
Still in the 48 hours we had snow and below zero degree celsius I, during one walk outside, started to freeze and thought: Why am I living here”. But there else should I live? Cape Coral? They never has any climate catastophe related problems.
*The same is true about latin names, it has taken me 18 months to learn Oreochromis Niloticus, Nile tilapia. Perhaps I should have tried to learn Oncorhynchus mykiss, rainbow trout , instead since that’s a fish in aquaculture that’s you actually can fish up here ,
