I remember one philosophy lesson, the last year in high school back in 1996. We had a substitute teacher. Thinking about it, he, the teacher, was the big brother of the bully who had destroyed my bike, just a few years earlier. Could that be the reason I remember the lesson? Ok, that’s another story. It was also so that a woman in class asked him if Jesus was a philosopher, and some guy in class thought she asked because the teacher was objectively attractive. Another story. What I was going to write was that the teacher said that postmodernism was over, we are now post-post-modernism. The thing is, that lately in political discussion  from the English speaking world, I have seen kids not born in 1996 who think postmodernism is the big enemy. Interesting.

If the videos I have seen are a cross-section western politics, we really need to go back to basics. Example, three years ago I saw discussions about the then upcoming movie No time to die. Nothing wrong with writing a manuscript where 007 is a black woman. But - and I'm paraphrasing a cultural writer - will it help a child soldier in Congo-Kinshasa? We need to go back to basics.

Or if you allow me to write about things here on dreamwidth. The summer of 2020 I lost some friends here after I mentioned the then current Norwegian study that might, or might not, have underestimated the effect of public masking. Would I have lost friends here if I instead had argued for more privatisation of health care? If not? Why is it worse to share a scientific discussion than to treat children with cancer as cash cows? We need to go back to basics.

Or I just realised that if I complain about people who politicise who plays 007, the joke is that the hill we should die on isn’t 007, it’s who can play The Doctor. Alt. if Jesus was a philosopher?
