So to the delight of Putin and Xi, the liberal world order from my formable years is gone.

For a reason unknown to me, only the Nordic countries are dark blue on this map. In the rest of it not even Canada get that high democraty index.

And what can I do?
1. Comfort myself with a coffee cup, a book by Donna Tartt and a cigarette in one hand? That was actually one thing I did after 9/11. But now I am slighly older and should be viser.
2. That bring me to another suggestion. Just accept we live in a broken world.
3. Scream myself blue about it online.
4. Find a way to help defend democraty.

idk mang that video seems like... extremely tinhatty and reactionary to me.

If Canada is becoming more authoritarian, it's much more likely due (like the US) to conventional conservative parties losing ground and grasping at a small but vocal and highly reactionary portion of the electorate like an awful version of political steroids, and it's been going on for probably forty years at this point. Trying to blame it on another country is pretty ridiculous, and this particular angle plays into the shitty anti-Asian racism that's escalated since covid debuted.
