I'm alive, and take the following with a grain of salt

Some military hospital tent outside a care centre I pass on my way to work. Of course we are affected by the threatening atmosphere in society. On the other hand, the government spokesman say our curve still look better than it did in Italy, Spain and so. Today 31/03 the statistic for this region, Västerbotten, Sweden, was 48 diagnosed cases, five patients were or had been in intensive care, no death. Statistic like that makes one hope we won't need the tent hospitals. Hopefully all the preparations is like using heavy artillery to open a nut. A vain hope(?). In reality it hasn't even started yet. Expecting the worst, hoping for the best.

It's a virus that kill some, not all just some, of the sick and old. Now no one says that the sick and old deserves to die. The following thought is taken from one single blog post I have read. From some countries you can see photos of heavily armed soldiers with their faces hidden by masks, on empty streets. Our way of protecting the old and sick are also draconian, but our politicians want to still keep the open society. So semi-dracorian, not crazy dracorian. Time will tell what's best. Now keep an "open society" is a much more abstract goal than keeping people alive. It a goal that’s much harder to benchmark. However, if we don’t get more death than countries that chose another path, that’s great. Having heavily armed soldiers on the streets doesn’t makes us feel safer.

It's not just killing the "sick and old", however.

Jag har funderat mycket över hur covid Eileen (som jag har döpt det, heh) hanteras här i sverige och...eh. Min sambo är otroligt skeptisk och tror att de har tagit bara minimala åtgärder här i sverige för pengarnas skull. "Lets sacrifice grandma to the invisible line," typ. Jag är lite mer naive, kanske. Den andra vågen är ofta ännu sämre än det förste i sådana fall (tex 1918 influenza) och jag kan köpa att regeringen vill kanske undvika att stänga alla inomhus bara för att släppa alla på gatan (mitt i sommarn! när det äntligen är så fint ute!) samtidigt och sedan POW!. Och kanske tror de till och med att svenskar ska visa svensk soliditet och hålla sig mer eller mindre inomhus utan något slags förbud.

Men ändå bodde vi prova. Inte bara de jättesjuka eller viktig verksamhet. Massprovar är det bäste sätt att hantera det här och det har vi inte gjort än.

More middle age and younger people are getting it in the US than was predicted from what we saw in other places.

Also, your personal risk is one thing, you as a unaffected carrier to others who are more vulnerable is another.

Everyone in NYC is told to stay home and it is just now--two weeks later--starting to slow down the new cases.

EDIT: Two 30-year-old men died in NJ, both otherwise healthy guys. One was a firefighter the other a baseball player.

Nobody is safe.
