Hope I'm not too provocative
Have you seen the Norwegain estimation that 200 000 Norwegains have to wear facemasks for one week to prevent one transmission of corona? Let's say that they underestimated the effectiveness of facemasks, that it stops twice as much transmissions. Now only 100 000 Norwegains have to use masks for a week to stop one transmission. Norway has a very low level of infections*. Let’s say that the rest of the world has 100 times as much societal infection as Norway has. That gives 1000 people to get the same effect. Also assume all data saying that children seldom spread corona to adults are wrong. Here’s the article about a family being thrown off a plane because their autistic three year old didn’t want to wear a mask: Boy with autism kicked off plane.
It often surprised me how little empathy people have. On the other hand, I should show empathy to the airplane personal, they are just doing their job and beside they must have high thoughts about children, if they think children can handle a face mask correctly. That’s nice of them. Before the pandemic: “When the pandemic comes we will flatten the curve by hand washing and physical distansing”. When the pandemic really came: “We will distress toddlers to minimally reduce the risk for adults.”
Edit: * And here I have to add that the region I live in, at the time of writing this actually, supposedly has less infection than the Norweigan average.
