With all respect

Sometimes you see a headline that play perfect into your own views of the world. This is one of them: Norwegians tell Trump: We don't want to come to your s***hole country

Three years ago when I had a stop over in Seattle I thought of what I should do if the guys or girls in the custom would give me any problem? Should I smugly say: “With all respect, why should I give up the right to health care, paid vacation, right to sick leave, maternity- dad leave if I was a parent, and so on just to become an (illegal or legal) immigrant in the US?” And one, that was during the Obama years. The good old days. Two, even if it hurts us to write this, Norway might do better than Sweden, so they should be even less interested in the US. Or all Nordic countries are scoring great on parameters like: quality of life, life expectancy, equality, freedom of press, democracy. It has been like that since, I don’t know the 1960s? We are used to it, we see that as a birthright. That our neighbours outperform us, we, however, haven’t had that long time to get used to.

Also I remember reading Norwegian writer Erlend Loe, he let a character in a book say: “It’s okay to be weird as long as you are Norwegian”. Since that I have wondered if I could write to the king of Norway and ask for a honorary citizenship ... Okay, now I’m silly, there was I? That’s right, Trump sucks. I start to think we should have a contest over who hate Trump the most. Perhaps we could outperform Norway in that contest.

It's so embarrassing. I can't even begin to explain it. But I will be a EU citizen within next few years even if I don't live there.

Det är en sak att vara avundsjuk av Norge, så länge du är inte avundsjuk av Danmark ;)
